I just installed a Vararam on my '99 last night. Unbelievable difference. Well, ok I am exagerating. I haven't pushed it yet, but at least it started and runs fine without any codes. I can say that my trip computer bumped up a few tenths more mpg on the way in to work this morning. I keep an Excel spreadsheet of my mileage, so I will post results after a few tanks with the VR.
I installed my Vararam 2 years ago. I think it went together well if you tighten everything down after it is all installed. I never had problems in the the rain. There is a big difference in power when you are on it hard. Third gear is leaving rubber so be carefull going in to it. No complaints yet.
Ok. I tried Installing the Vararam and after I was done, I was completely dissatisfied with the fit and finish, so I happily took it off and put it up for sale. What else is good out there without the trouble and horryfying finish?
Agreed;
I just bought one and once I got it and looked closely at the parts........I found the whole item to be poorly assembled and just cheezy. So I repacked it and am returning it for a refund Monday.
I have no doubt that they work, but I just can't mount this on my car.

I couldn't have said this any better; my thoughts EXACTLY. I only had it out of the box for about 3 minutes before I knew I would be returning it. One thing I can tell everyone is that Vararam is a stand-up company with a no nonsense return policy. Heck, they even pay for your return shipping by way of mailing you a prepaid UPS shipping label. I would encourage anyone who's on the fence to go ahead and purchase one to judge for themselves, you really have nothing to lose.

That is good to know, hope I get the same response you did tomorrow.

It is personal preference but it is proven that there is no more efficient intake (at speeds above 30mph) than the Vararam. The fit is somewhat rough because it has so many pieces that have to fit together corrrectly. I have installed 4 of them now and all have fit a little different. One fact remains the same it is the best at the track period

Not doubting it.......too bad that for $300+ they can't produce a better fitting product.
I noted they are using OEM foglight surrounds and they seem to just whack the back off and then pop rivet their parts to these. Seems they could save $$ in the long run by having someone tool the foglight surrounds so that they matched up to their ducts better.......
The connection between the ducts, and how they join each other seems kind of crude and haphazard as well. The rubber seals on mine were all lose or had fallen off and the double faced tape that was supposed to hold them on was now covered in the white packing pellets The filter connection also seemed to be poorly done.
Overall I was surprised that such a well thought of product would be so poorly fabricated and presented.
I also think the Vararam concept is the best of all the CAI. It's just a shame that the execution of the concept isn't as class leading. As a matter of fact, I am so sold on the Vararam concept that I took a shot in the dark and asked Vararam if they would be willing to construct one for me with more care and higher quality (for which I'd gladly pay more) but they declined. Again, the return went like clock-work and they stood behind their policy of, "If you don't like it for any reason, just return it for a full refund" (or something to that affect).
I wish Callaway constructed the Vararam!
