Predator diablo programmer, settings:
Air fuel: - 1.00%
Shift Pressure: + 2.0% at all shift points
Spark: + 1.0%
Power Band adjusted to 5500 rpm
Rev limiter set at 6200 rpm
Factory dealer reset the throttle body locator sensor (do not get a throttle body service $125.00 and all they do is spray carb cleaner into the throttle body inlet, locate the sensor with their electronics was $30.00 labor)
Rest of programming un-altered
Throttle pedal pressure firm, shifts are firm (desireable), car seems alive and really wants to run.
Engine Configuration:
5.7 L v-8
Breathless Air Cleaner (replaced the hurricane as during wet weather will cause the engine to hydraulic requiring a new motor)
Wide Mouth Snorkle
Smooth rubber between the snorkle and throttle body
Wide mouth adapter added to throttle body to simulate 90 mm ($59.00 plastic part available from most catalog suppliers on this forum.)
MSD spark plug wires, factory plugs replaced (3 bad)
Car mileage 25,000
Tire pressure 35 lbs cold, nitrogren filled
Corsa x-pipe and Indy exhaust system
Using a can of Outlaw octane booster every tank fill up
Results: car performs like a mid 60's Corvette, not a detuned car for the street. 0-60 is about 4.4 seconds average with a high performance transmission factory option with a 2.73 rear axel ratio. Five runs with a digital stop watch caliubrated to five significant places) Performance to 100 was 9.9 seconds on five seperate runs. Have not tried a 1/4 mile as no track is currently within easy commuting range. When during the test, the engine was given 1/2 throttle to keep tire spin to a minimum and after lauch, floor boarded. The front of the car actually lifts and the driver and passenger are pushed into the seats during all acceleration testing.
It is too early to report gas mileage figures especially in California where they have altered the blend of the gasoline for summer driving and yes, Premium here is currently $3.49. Will provide a 1,000 mile average in about three months.
As a footnote, I do not abuse the car, just wanted better engine response and driveability. Use of Nitrogen has been my philosphy for years, can provide local So. California source a Porche race car prep shop in Costa Mesa -Stuttgart. After replacing the original tires, went back to the emt's designed for the car. Used Michelins first, a firmer compound than factory, which resulted in far less corner ability, tread on the ground was 2.0 inches smaller than the Goodyears.
You can find an article on the use of Nitrogen for car tires in Corvette magazine, current issue, reduces oxidation, leakage through the tire rubber, is a larger molecule than regular gas station air so tire pressures do not alter very much, highest reading in summer driving in California has been a 2 lb increase to 37 pounds. By reducing tire heat, thread wear is maximized and fewer required trips to get the tires properly inflated.
Car ride is smooth on all but highly undulated roadbeds. Perceived exhaust backpressure at tailpipe is uniform, no popping, spitting and engine at idle is relatively smooth when viewed operating, very smooth in passenger compartment.
Your thoughts and opinions are welcomed.
In all probability, you will receive a better response to your post if you fill out your profile. My comments regarding your post are: You're obviously enjoying your Vette and this is a good thing. You may be a little overly optimistic/enthusiastic regarding the contribution of some of your mod's, however I don't see anything you've done that would actually hurt your cars performance. After you've been on the forum a while longer and have had a chance to read more threads, you most certainly will be in a better position to more objectively evaluate what mods might be best for you. Remember the wave!
