Is there a way to...
Thanks.

Sorry but your OUT OF LUCK! There are no indicators in the PCM to log that data. There are however some things that you can look at. Examine the clutch, brakes and tires. If the car is low mileage, it should still have OEM stuff. Tires last approx 20-30K under normal wear and tear, A OEM clutch will easily last 60-100K under NORMAL use. There exceptions to that rule but, for the most part. a little spirited driving never hurt a C5
You can also do a CARFAX and see what pops up.
Good luck in your seach.

What's the real truth about baby-ing the car for the first 500 miles and what are the possible pitfalls if he didn't do this?

I wanted to wait until the 07 model year and then get one but the wife found a 06 C6 Z51 coupe for a good price. Well there wasn't any way i was going to agree to anything less than a ZO6. The dealer that we were dealing with insisted on me taking a test drive in the 06 C6 Z51. So,,,
who could resist that offer. The car had 15 miles on it and I beat the hell out of it. Fried the tires three or four times, smoked the brakes, saw the other side of 150 twice and then took it back to the dealer. Well, the wife talked me into that car and guess what,,,it runs perfect! No engine or drive train issues at all!Yea,,its good idea to drive it sensible for the first 800-900 miles but, it doesn't seem like it hurts it not to. I was able to drive my new 02 ZO6 from Dallas Fort worth TX to CT and I drove the first 800 miles like a text book break in!
I waxed him good! Oh, yea,,,,The 02 ZO6 runs phenomenal and yes I do drive it hard!
