I have a c5 2004 z06 with about 15000 miles on it. I work from home so I don't drive that much.
it's coming up on the 3 year warranty in August so I'm debating about buying an extended warranty.
Anyone have a z06 2004 with way more miles on theirs than mine? i was just curious what the service history is for these cars? anyone recommend buying an extended warranty with the low miles I have?
I don't expect my driving habits to change dramatically over the next few years.
You can have a very reliable car and all it takes is one repair for the GMPP to pay for itself. Parts cost on a single repair can pay for the service plan. If you get a code C1214 you are looking at a repair cost anywhere from $300 doing it yourself or $2000 if you have a shop do it. Parts cost alone for that repair can be $1200 to $1700 depending on what has to be replaced. On my 03Z I just noticed the outside air temp was constantly reading 69 degrees. After checking the electrical connections I put the car up in the air and took a look at the sensor. Something broke it off where it enters the radiator cavity. Not sure what it would cost to fix without GMPP but it will not cost me anything.
My C1214 repair which required the replacement of both the EBCM and BPMV has already made up for the $1750 the plan cost me plus any interest I would have made on the $1750 in the year and a half since I bought the plan.
thanks for the heads up on the parts and costs information. yeah i sort of figured that one major repair would pay for the extended warranty. i think i'm going to go for it. if i plan to keep the car for the long haul :>)
Had a buddy with an A4 02 coupe who bought the GMPP. The traction control computer went out. Withour GMPP, the repair would have cost $3200.00. He drove the car gently and never abused it. The math is easy to do. I'd buy it for my '98 if I could get it.
