I have a 99' A4 Coupe w/ 78K. The car lopes at idle with the A\C on low, I can not figure out why. Do you think a tune up will help? I was thinking about changing the plugs, wires, & the distributor cap. I am not an extremely savvy mechanic, but I have changed these items in the past on my other cars. I bought the car back in Dec. of 06 w/ 71K. Do I need a lift or ramps to get to my plugs? Or can I just open the hood and access them? She is my daily driver, so I would like to fix her as soon as possible. Please help me stop the lope.

Lope is generally the choppy sounding idle of an engine with a large cam in it... If you're engine is making that sound w/o a large profile cam, i'd definately start at the plugs.
I'm no mechanic myself, but changing the plugs is pretty easy to do w/ the car on the ground, no jacks required. Just pop hood, pry off Fuel Rail Covers, and don't burn your hands on the exhaust...
Edit: You should do the wires while your at it too...
I agree,I would change the plugs/wires. Make sure to check the gap on them, they should be set between 0.55/0.60 for Naturally aspirated cars.
I like to use the NGK TR55 plugs and a good set of MSD wires.
You can get all the plugs and wires form up top without even lifting the car. The rear plugs might take a few minutes on your first time, but after that it gets simple.
You might even want tot hink about getting some SeaFoam and cleaning out the motor before you swap plugs. That might help you out as well. Kill two birds with one stone.
Blown,
Thank you for the information. I recently had the oil changed, so if I add the Sea Foam do I need to have the oil changed again?
Thank you,
