Default Another Brake Pad Thread

I have read the hundreds of post on choice of brake pads but I am still undecided.

I have a 99 coupe and I just ordered new cross drilled .slotted rotors from sportbrakes.com.

I do not track the car but I do drive aggressively. I also wash my car every day I use it (it is not a daily driver) so brake dust is not a major concern but brake noise is.

So......... Do i go Hawk HPS, AC Delco ceramic... etc. ? Also, do I need the parts that come with the AC Delco pad kit (clips, lube, etc)?

Thank you in advance.

AC/Delco Durastop are light dusting and I use them with my sprtbrakes drilled/slotted rotors. They are alos very easy on the rotors.
When I autocross I change to solid rotors from Rock Auto and use Hawk HP + pads.
They have a lot more stopping power but about 10X the dust generation..
So you need to decide which you wnat.
I would use the parts supplied.

Is there no inbetween pad?

I do not car about minor dusting as I wash the car all the time but squeal will kill me as well as fading.

Most people wiht the AC Delcos are complaining that they fade very easily and that the stock pads had better stopping power.

How about Z06 pads?

I have tried sportbrake rotors and Raybestos QS ceramic; low dust but kept getting pulsating problem even after bedding procedure; now I have stoptech rotors and hawk hps (very low dust); so far so good; better braking power in my opinion

The stock OEM semi metallic pad is a good in between pad.

From a dusting point of view, here's how I would rank them low to high:

ceramic.....OEM........OEM Z06......Hawk HPS........Hawk HP

Go with either the Hawk HPS or the stock Z06 pads if you want good bite, low noise and managable amount of dust.

Ceramics are a waste of money for somebody that will drive the car hard, and the HP+ (which I currently have) dust like mad and make noise...

I can tell you all of this personally cause I have ran both Z06 pads and HP+ pads, while leaving my buddy in his C5 behind cause his ceramics were fading and he had to back off...

What about the clips? DO I need them?

I use my vehicle like you do... it's not tracked, and I keep it clean.
We went with the sportbrakes slotted rotors, and AC Delco ceramic pads from Gene (gmpartshouse).
I was dismayed with the amount of dust created after the change to ceramic from the stock pad. That only lasted about 200 miles though. Now the dusting is almost non-existant.
I have no issues with stopping distance, especially since the car is not raced. Why create more dust than necessary for the task at hand?

He speaks the truth! I'm that buddy. LOL

For daily Driving my Delco Ceramics are great... low dust, no noise, etc... But as soon as i start driving hard... they're really only good for a couple stops then they fade like crazy!!! I was keeping up just fine for a couple minutes up the Spiral Highway - but then i had to back off cause i lost a LOT of confidence in my pads...

I'm probably going to throw down for a set of OE Blank Rotors, and some Hawks HP+ Pads... I'd rather squeak - than fade and fly off a cliff...

Edit: I also have the Sportbrake Cross Drilled & Slotted Rotors, and only see AutoX every few months... but daily spirited Driving... hehe

Default Question New Rotors/Old Pads

Is there a down side of using new rotors with existing Z06 pads?

Since I have new rotors, do I have to use new pads? A forum member has offered me a great deal on slightly used Z06 pads.

If they really are "slightly" used pads than you should be fine, but if they are grooved or tapered you are wasting money... If you do go with the used pads I would suggest buffing the glaze off the pads so you have new material on both the rotor and the pad for break in.
