Default Instrument Cluster Problem

My instrument cluster does not light up. Everything else works--all the gauges, headlights, hazard, tailights, and side lights. It's just the instrument cluster. My auto electric guy checked the fuses and they look good. He changed the multifunction switch to correct another problem and I was hoping it would fix this problem also but it didn't. I'm trying to avoid changing out the instrument cluster. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Have you fiddled with the dimmer switch to see if that's the culprit?

During the day, the DIC controller light sensor sends brightness information to the BCM and the BCM then controls the brightness of the instruments. During the night, the Dimmer controls the input to the BCM which again controls the brightness of the instruments.

The dimmer switch on my son's 02 Coupe has a lock setting on it. The one on my 98 Coupe does not lock when pushed in. Could this have anything to do with the instrument cluster not lighting?
