Serpentine belt comes off - '97

Serpentine belt comes off - '97

3 times in the last month the serpentine belt has come off at start up. It is 10 years old. Also have a slight squeel when the car is idling which definitely seems to be coming from the belt. I will replace, but does anyone think that there might be another problem with something out of alignment? Any others have this issue?

Did you check the tension pulley? I just replaced the top one on my 97. It was worn out. My belt did not come off though.

Had the same problem.Replace top tensioner and belt. No more trouble.

Me too, threw the belt at the drag strip, car almost overheated since the water pump is driven by it

Replaced the tensioner, no more problems.

I highly recommend checking the harmonic balancer pulley and make sure it isn't wobbling or is walking off the snout. It a common problem and will cause belt issues.

The BELT is 10 years old ???????

The only thing that surprises me is that it has lasted that long ....
