Mike, you are a handy guy.. do it yourself and save the money.. I did mine a few years ago and kept the writeup. cost me a few bucks in materials assuming you already have a Dremel... Mine looks as good as a Shaner..
Let me know if you want it.. I will email it to you..
I'd say if he was just polishing it, yes, you could do a great job yourself. But the amount of material removed really requires a lathe to do properly. You can get a "satin" finished one for $129 shipped and polish it yourself if you want to save a few bucks and you have a little time.
Yep, thats what they look like. Great Mod. It really made a difference in the throttle response which makes the car a lot more fun to drive. Haven't done a new tune yet but expect it to be even better with a little more tuning.
For all the crap flying back and forth on this thread, porting the throttle body on LS1 engines is a recommended mod in Will Handzel's How to Build High-Performance Chevy LS1/LS6 V-8s. He also recommends removing the TB screen - that one also gets a rise out of some people.
Mark Shaner does excellent work and is a great guy. Excellent vendor.
Have fun with it.

thanks for the kind words, but the price for the Shaner isn't out of line IMO. I'm already in an email diaglog with Mark about purchasing his S2, and keeping my original TB.

Mark has normally been pretty slow with emails. He's pretty easy to reach on the phone though, especially in the mornings. Just have a little time to talk, he is well spoken. He is a great guy though. (817) 860-8830

I'm sure I don't have to ask "Please keep us posted Mike!".

Mark installed mine for me today and I too am very pleased. Like others have said, smother idle, better throttle response and my a$$-o-mometer tells me more power!

I did a little more than polish it ... and it does not require a lathe if you have a steady hand and patience with a Dremel.... Here the finished product before I put the blade back in.. I relocated the PCV system because I did not want ANY interruption in airflow by drilling a hole in the filled area.. Sorry for the crappy picture quailty.. I only had a low res shot on my PC..
FastBasser couldn't agree more, been there and seen it. As for the throttle response part of it is because the porting goes deeper into the TB and when the throttle blade uncovers it it acts like more throttle angle. PS I have a ported throttle body. In fact sometimes it is really noticable on cold starts. JMHO. Ron B.
I think Mr. Shaner is getting backed up. If you are looking to have him do the mod plan on some 'down' time. Mine has been then for almost three months..........

Mark got sick and was down for a little bit. I've been waiting a while for mine too. Today I did get a tracking number from Fed Ex though. I can't wait to get it and have it installed!
I put one on a few months back. The throttle response is better, or at least feels better. The only problem I am having is I am getting a little bucking in the parking lots. I think I need my tune tweaked to get it back to perfect
