Default Installed Shaner TB today - yeah!

Did a little mod to my car today, and I'm sorry I didn't do this one sooner. I dropped in to see Mark Shaner (one of the advantages to living in the DFW area!) and he had my new TB ready to go. A quick swap, and a little help doing a TB bypass, and we were ready to go! The first thing I noticed was a much more "sensitive" pedal - it took only the slightest push to get the car to leap forward. Much quicker than before. Then it revved quickly to redline, and smoothly back down. The thing I noticed most was the absolute smooth idle when at a light, almost like the motor was shut off completely. And coasting down a long, slow hill with the cruise control on used to produce a "bucking" of the car, almost like jamming the brakes for a split second over and over, and that's gone as well. After a quick "break-in", we did a little tuning with HP Tuners, and really woke the car up. Got a little less lean, a little more advance, and got a little higher rpm's for the shift - basic stuff to start with. Other than headers, I don't have any other engine mods done. A test drive with these changes was even more fun than before. I'm thrilled to get the mod done, and more happy to meet Mark, who was as knowledgeable about these cars as anyone I've spoken with, and just as nice as could be. He took all the time in the world to make sure I was happy with the new setup. Great day, great mod!

I've been considering this little mod for quite some time. Thanks for the write-up! I'll have to get moving on this one.

BTW, beautiful engine compartment you got there!

Who cares? Why even start?

It works. Nobody that has done it has ever said they didn't feel a thing. The only ones that say don't do it are the ones who have never done it. If it doesn't give you any top end (dyno) power it doesn't matter. It does give you a big boost in throttle response, which is what you use 95% of the time.

I do.

There's cosmetic mods, and performance mods. The only way to determine a performance mods effictiveness is with a before/after dyno slip or before/after 1/4 times.

Any mention of a performance mod on CF will always get asked what kind of measured increase it gave. Don't be alarmed that someone asked.

If the price is right and this TB would give at least a tenth improvement in the 1/4 mile, than I was going to ask for additional info. I am always interested in increasing acceleration.

Hey Tim - sorry I've been off the Forum for a couple days. I don't have any time slips! I need to get off my butt and get to the track. Seriously though, I couldn't imagine this wouldn't give me a couple tenths in the 1/4. Shaner's web site is s2performance dot net and I'm sure there is some good information you can gather from there. The cost is not prohibitive in any way - $160 shipped for the ported and polished, $130 for the satin finish. There's a core charge unless you send him yours to be returned. Now if it will stop raining here, I'll go get some numbers!!!

That's your opinion. Not everyone takes their car to the dyno. If they get a big "seat of the pants" increase, that is all that matters to them. It's not fair for you to go around knocking things just for the sake of argument.

You were over here pissing people off with your bashing of the whole "descreening the MAF" thing and now you are going to buy a ported "descreened" MAF. These guys ask questions for answers from people who have done the mod that they are contemplating doing. Not opinions from people that don't know what they are talking about.

I'm ready to see a quote showing where I knocked this mod ?

Not everyone takes their car to the dyno.
I have never taken any sports car I've owned to a dyno either. So all I have is SOTP or track timeslips.

WOW; you need to get a grip. The myth about de-screening the MAF for gains (under 400HP) was debunked by GM themselves. If you want to believe different, then go ahead. But you're not agruing with me... I only forwarded the info provided by the LS1 engineering team.

And if you think any reported performance mod won't be asked about HP gained or tenths lost in the 1/4... then you must be new to sports cars.

I too have reported SOTP improvements - without any before/after dyno sheets or time slips. I never took it to task if anyone asked of there was any measurable improvement

And why do you care ? You're not the post originator; and that's who I asked the question to.

And the post originator (Bob) did respond to me; in a calm and intelligent manor. Didn't you read it (post #12)? You may not have known it was directed towards me because - those CF members that know each other - call each other by their real first names.

You are soooo busy trying to make others appear to be jerks, that you haven't performed any introspection on yourself.

Physician; heal thy self before diagnosing others.
