Default remote range

I've noticed something odd about the range of my remote, specifically with the passive lock/unlock feature. seems it works too well! a few nights I've been in bed and I have the keys on my night stand along with my cell phone and stuff. if I pick up the remote, sometimes I can hear the car beep indicating that for whatever reason, it has unlocked then locked itself. that makes me worry about the car unlocking itself when it shouldn't be. according to the manual the passive feature only works within like 10 feet of the passenger's door or 30 feet of the driver's door or something like that. so how is it that when I'm in the bedroom on the second floor with the C5 parked outside the passive feature is locking and unlocking the car?

I shouldn't really have anything to worry about though right? if I set the keys down they will go into power save mode and the car will be locked no matter what right? I know I can just turn the feature off, that's what I usually do. but what gives with it doing this?

If you measured the straight line distance between your night stand and the car it could well be within 30 ft. However, on my 97 there were times when I was walking through the parking lot at work and I would see the lights come on when the car unlocked at distances of 100 ft or so.

Just turn the passive feature off and program it in the DIC to operate the way you want it to function.

I had to turn mine off. It was driving me and my dogs nuts. I got tired of the horn beep in the garage everytime it was iterrupted.

what options does the DIC give you for the passive entry feature? I like the feature but I wish it would only work within 1m of the car.

seems strange that when I walk around the house I can occasionally hear my car beeping outside. its on the driveway pointed directly at the house, and I'm well out of range. according to the owners manual there should be no way the passive features would be activated in that position.
