I have a 02 bare bones stock LS1. I can hear a tick under the right valve cover, mostly on start up(cold engine) Do you think it's a lifter and Are these adjustable. Man I gotta get a manual..Thanks.... Pat

If it is a lifter causing the ticking, they are not adjustable. My lifters went bad or I should say 1 or 2 of them did. It started with slight ticking at cold startup and would go away within seconds. Slowly over time, that time frame from ticking to not ticking would increase and finally it kept on till the engine temp would start to rise then the ticking would stop. I took it to the dealer who tested it and came back with "Lifters Bleeding Down When Cold" or basically, they were worn out. Finally, the ticking suddenly became louder by far so I took down the top of the engine and replaced them all. Problem solved.

Check your pushrods, stockers can bend under high RPM.

Could just be the dreaded LS1 cold knock.

Didn't catch the "cold start". If it goes away then its not the pushrods. One other thing you can try, not sure what oil you are using, but a switch to a different oil "may" help.

It dosen't sound like piston slap. The oil was changed at a Dealer the day I bought it. It didn't say on bill the type of oil but it was $10.50 a quart so I'm thinking synthetic. From what I'm hearing from you guys and what it sounds like I think it is lifters. Is this going to hrt real bad...Thanks... C5Pat
