Ok, first symptoms....intermittent squeaking when cold and an occasional constant squeak while driving. I looked at it today and it appears I have coolant on the front leaf spring and on the balancer...nothing under the car..the reservoir is low...so I am guessing the pump is going bad. I thought these pumps leaked thru a weep hole on the bottom when they go out..is that what I am seeing even though I have nothing under the car??

Water Pump Replacement
Removal Procedure
Caution
Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
Disconnect the negative battery cable.
Disconnect the intake air tempeture (IAT) sensor connector.
Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor connector.
Remove the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.
Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hose clamps from the water pump.
Remove the radiator inlet and outlet hoses from the water pump.
Remove the heater hose clamps from the water pump.
Remove the heater hoses from the water pump.
Perform the following steps on vehicles equipped with a bolt on water pump pulley.
Remove the water pump pulley bolts.
Remove the water pump pulley.
Remove the six water pump retaining bolts from the engine block.
Remove the water pump.
Installation Procedure
Clean the water pump gasket surfaces.
Install new water pump gaskets with the tabs up.
Install the water pump to the engine block.
Notice
Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Install the water pump bolts into the engine block. Tighten
Tighten the water pump bolts to (first pass) 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
Tighten the water pump bolts to (final pass) 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
Perform the following steps on vehicles equipped with a bolt on water pump pulley.
Install the water pump pulley.
Install the water pump pulley bolts. Tighten
Tighten the water pump pulley bolts a first pass evenly to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
Tighten the water pump pulley bolts a final pass to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
Install the heater hoses to the water pump.
Install the heater hose clamps to the water pump.
Install the radiator inlet and outlet hoses to the water pump.
Install the radiator inlet and outlet radiator hose clamps to the water pump.
Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System .
Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
Install the air intake duct/cleaner assembly.
Connect the MAF sensor connector.
Connect the IAT sensor connector.
Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
Program the Transmitters. Refer to Transmitter Programming/Synchronization in Keyless Entry.
Start the engine.
Inspect the water pump for leaks.
I know that you have already bought yours, but here's and FYI for anyone reading this that is getting ready to do the same thing. If you plan on getting a different thermostat, get a water pump for an '04 vette (same as an LS2). This water pump uses a standard thermostat that you can buy for $5-$10, instead of the one piece thermostat/waterneck that costs $50-$60.

Any problems or drawbacks to installing an '04 and up water pump on a '01 LS1? Any reason to stay with the pre '04 pump?
