Lately, I've been getting "check engine" (staying on, checked gas cap, check for leaks, etc.). Pulled P1416 code. Air pump related I think...(all this stuff is emissions related). What the surprise is to me is the dealer says it the "air check valve". The dealer is charging me 2 hours labor to replace (somewhere in back of the engine?). Anyone replace this (yourself or dealer)?. Does this sound reasonable? I have 50k miles.
Responding to my own post! Using the search feature revealed that the P1416 was for Air Check Valves; apparently for the right side one, the intake manifold comes off........This is the reason for the steep labor charge.
I'll let you know how the dealerships performs on this one; I can just see thousands of codes if this isn't done right.
Heard........so far so good with em. but have nothing "of this magnitude" done there before. Mike Guerrera and James Bragg are pretty decent.
I'll let you guys know my results! LOt of work for a little part.
I forgot to add that the extended warranty does not cover this since it's "emissions". What a crock!
I'd contact EPA, emission parts have a hard warranty, some parts as much as 8 years. Car makers have to meet those warranties so I would say dig deeper on what vendor is saying,
As far as intake manifold, I take mine off in less then 15 minutes.
2 hours sounds reasonable...be sure that they tighten the knock sensors while they have the manifold off. Did you recently install headers? A few members, myself included, have gotten this and the P1415 after switching to after market headers.
For some bazzar reason I have by "Warranty and Owner Assistance Information" book right in front of me.
Federal emission control systems are covered for 2 years or 24k miles. The cats and PCM (powertrain control mod) are covered for 8 yrs / 80k miles.
California is a little different.
Under covered parts, I don't see an "air check valve" unless they just refer to it as "check valves" in the secondary air injection system list.
Some of the parts on the list have * or ** and are covered longer. Some of those parts are interesting, like: the "supercharger assembly" and the "turbocharger assembly"
