YES - I think the shocks get progessively stiffer - but I'm not entirely sure of WHAT the difference is

Each shock is valved different for each application. Base being the softest and Z06 the firmest. If your looking for replacement shocks -Many members go with an after market or the c6 z06. Bilstein shocks are highly recommended by many forum members. I installed the Bilstein HD for my 01 and they are slightly firmer than my z51 shocks were but they handle so much better.

C5, Do you mind sharing your source for the Bilstein shocks and the cost?

Thanks,

I went with C6 Z06 shocks...
from www.GMpartshouse.com

Here is a link to Gene Culley's July special post and the applicable excerpt

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show...highlight=July

||--Genuine GM C6 Z06 Shocks--||

10313647 – Z06 Front Shocks
10318361 – Z06 Rear Shocks

Both sets of front and rear shocks (4) 228.86 shipped.
For the shocks on our website, use part number c6z06shocks under Chevrolet make.

The C6 Z06 shocks will work on C5’s without modification. Not recommended for C5’s that are completely lowered on stock bolts.

I went from FE1 to the 2004 C5z06 Sachs shocks and they are great in combination with the C5z06 Stabis and Endlinks. Thanks to Bob - Fichtnerchevrolet .

When I'm cruising these shocks absorb the whams on bad routes perfekt but they are stiff and safe by highspeed on german autobahns. And all in combination with a very quick response characteristic.

This mod makes another much better and safer C5 with a new agile handling.

I purchased mine through Mid America Motorworks last spring. They were $299.99 plus shipping but at the time I purchased a few other things and I asked for a 10% discount - and I got it. I have asked for discount since then and they told me they no longer do that for large orders. I went with the Bilstein HD since I only drive on weekends and I do a lot of interstate driving to car shows/trips. This is the perfect shock for someone who wants a comfortable, slightly firmer well controlled ride. My old shocks were the factory z51 with around 29K on them. These are the shocks a z51 should have come with from factory IMO. They absorb the rough roads much better and don’t float when you go over bridges at high speeds. Most vendors have the Bilsteins for around $299 and you may find some used ones here on the forum. You cannot go wrong with Bilstein or the C6z06 shocks IMO.
