I have to get real close to my car before it starts working. I'm interested in replacing the battery to see if the range increases.
Has anyone replaced the battery in the key fob?
I replaced the batteries in both of my key fobs. The cheapest place I found for batteries, was Wal-Mart. You will have to reprogram them after the new batteries are installed. :chevy
You just needed to point the FOB at the car and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons at the same time for about 10 sec, until the horn honks, then you are good to go!

C5 Hardtop- Save your time and money. That is the first thing I did when I bought my '99 C5 6 months ago. It did not help. I also purchased a new FOB since I only received 1 with the car and it has the same issue. From what I have seen, I think it has to do with a lot of interference. When I am here in El Paso, I must be very close (same with garage door opener). But when I went up to New Mexico (very small rural town) to visit some family, the FOB worked from 40' away! So ???? If you do replace, get them at WalMart, just get the battery type off the original. They have Energizer.

The battery "died" in mine (2002, not even 3 months). The owner's manual says the average life of a battery is 3 years. Pointed this out to my dealership and they're happy to replace the battery. :D
I guess this falls under the "good GM service" title so rare nowadays ?
Funny how these queries increase every year when the cold weather hits. Yes you can change the battery and it will help, but they may still be sluggish in the cold -- it's just life.
The battery costs about $5. Just get on one of the web search engines and input the battery number. You'll find a lot of companies that have the battery and will mail it to you. Saves a trip to the mall.
