I am absolutely amazed at how many C5 owners want to lower their Vettes...I always thought that was a trick used by the "rice-burner" community, mainly because they think it looks "kewl." What's happening to America's Sports Car????
Abolutely nothing - unless you count the fact that "america's sports car" is getting better & better. Guess it's like opinions - everybody has one but they're different. I like mine lowered, when I was driving around in 69'/70' I liked the rear-end high and front-end low. Things change, different people have different views - boring world if we were all alike.

Many of us don't like the 4x4 look of the vette with 6" of space between the fender and the tire. Also, I resent any association with a "rice-burner".
:p:

In your sig pic, can you see all of the black "space" above your front and back tires?
Good, this is why a lot of people like to lower their Vettes.
This is not an issue of what to do to an American or Foreign automobile. This is just an option we as American have to do with our vehicles, so you don't like yours lowered, that's fine, some of us prefer the lowered look. Sometimes peoples ignorance comes out very clearly when they start thinking there way is correct. If you don't like it Lowered don't look at it! :smash:

LMAO!!! I could not have put it better myself. I always get that comment. Why did you lower a vette? No matter what car it is I hate fender gap. Fender gap is for 4X4 clearance, not sports cars. I guess I'm just being young and foolish, but if you don't agree with how my car is setup, don't look at it.
After reading the how to under Tech Tips, this seems like a very easy thing to do. I agree that lower is better but how is the ride? How much lower is the car after doing this?

There was an article by LJK Setright a few years ago that discussed the effect of lowering the centre of gravity in a car. He came up with a rule of thumb which was that reducing the CG by 1" has the same effect on cornering grip as making the car 6" wider. That's a good enough reason for me to lower mine !

nothing...but with the fender well gap from the factory, it looks a 4x4

MeanGreen, that "fender gap" is there so you don't destroy your fender if you should hit a pothole, driving your wheel/tire upwards. :yesnod:

Yes, there should be a reasonable fender gap such as the one C4s have. The C5 was designed to ride lower. You can tell by the gap between the fender and the wheel. Its just not even. Also if you ever look at the first drawings of the C5 they didn't intent for those fenders to go with that ride height. It was raised because of the problems that come with a lower car such as the PITA task of jacking a lower car or using common since when driving. I've never heard of a lowered C5 hitting a fender with the tire. I respect everyone's opinion, but if you don't like lowered C5s then why do you always come into the topics on lowering just to bash it? If I didn't like fixed headlights for example I wouldn't go telling people how stupid they looked in the topics they opened looking for help with them. If you don't like it don't do it but at least have some respect for other people who want to and have questions about it. And as for the reason there are so many people lowering C5s its because they look better. :chevy
Jerry, I now understand...it's the young generation...the ones who grew up with Hondas, Toyotas, etc. When I was growing up the Vette was the epitome of the Muscle Car...that had great styling and power. It certainly stood out even among the Hemi Cudas, the Chevelle SSs, etc. However, what I am now seeing in the C5 are those who are trying to emulate those import cars and I view it as the American Sports Car giving into those imports. Just remember, it was the Vette that sent the RX-7, 300ZX, etc. to early graves. You can do as you wish...but I will never emulate those "ricer boys" I get too much pleasure in "making a dot of them in my rearview mirror" and I hope what they see is the American icon and not an imitation of their weezing, pumped up econo-box, four bangers. Now, I'll get off of my soapbox and enjoy some American Iron. Catch you next week!
