I am looking for a cordless impact wrench that can break loose the caliper bracket bolts, which I believe are torqued to 125 lbs. What do you guys recommend and where should I shop?
i am a snap-on dealer so my opinion is biased, but our 1/2 cordless 18v will break loose the lugnuts on my snap-on truck.it is $500 and is rated at 550 ft lbs. if you want something less expensive makita just came out with an 18v kit, the can be found on the web and soon to be found at home depot. even places such as carquest offer a 18v impact that will loosen the caliper bolts.
this is what I use at the track for changing my tires torqued at 100ft-lbs.... it easily loosens them. and only $120
I have not tried it on caliper bracket bolts....
A friend of mine just bought a cordless impact made by goodyear racing at Pep Boys. He paid around $90 for it and said it works great for lugnuts, and he even used it to remove an axle nut on a honda.
I've been extremely impressed with my dad's dewalt 18v 1/2" impact. It has WAY more power than the old electric impacts. I don't know what its rated for, I want to say 350ft lbs but maybe its more. Regardless, I have used it to drive 6" lag bolts into hemlock and it worked awesome. Lug nuts take far less torque to tighten or loosen from my experience. I'm pretty sure the Dewalt is half the price of the Snap-on...though I can't vouch for difference in quality when you compare the two side by side.

The DeWalt is very nice.
I just bought a DeWalt 18v 1/2" drive Model no. DW059. Rated 300 ft lbs. Works great removing my C5 lugs torqued at 100 ft lbs.
Comes with 2 18v batteries, charger and carry case. My local Home Depot had it on sale for $269 (regular price $299)
Do you have an air compressor? I have a air impact with three forward settings and one reverse. It's from SEAR'S as are all of my air tools. The cordless impacts were just on the horizon when I purchased all of my air tools...no battery recharging, just regular oiling.

Suprised ya didn't flip that Honda on it's roof !!!!
I have the snap on cordless impact. I use it at the tracks and work now for 3 years, no problems yet. Lost of torque. My impact is 14.4 volts, the 18 volts they have out now is even better. I would recommend it.
Unfortunately, the old-fashioned, hi-torque cordless impact drivers do not keep a charge very long, so you pretty much have to keep the battery in the charger at all times. The nice thing about them is that most are capable of high-torque.
Now the new Lithium-ion cordless tools have a much better battery life and you can let them sit for weeks without loosing a good percentage of their charge. HOWEVER, most are good for up to 110 lbs-ft (Hitachi and Panasonic), which may be okay for the average C5 owner, but since you requested one that is good for 125 lbs-ft, you may be stuck with the older type units and chargers.
