Default column lock?

Ok sorry to post this topic but i went and searched and read and read now im confused,my steering wheel will turn all around without the key in and it in gear,(so i think recall has been done before i got the car used)tonite i get pull key wait 10 sec, then car starts but when i move, it shuts down gas to the motor, so at this point can i get a bypass and install it and problem fixed? ive already pulled fuse 23,25 both are good.also i used my spare key and still same display,
thanks
Terry

Yep more than likely at least one revision of the recall was done. I would buy the CLB, remove the K harness if installed, and verify the actuator is withdrawn prior to install, I believe the Corvette's of Houston comes with the lighter plug to activate the actuator if needed and install, should be good after that.

If the column does not lock, then the lockplate has been removed as per the last recall. Most likely, the Harness K relay has failed, and the BCM is cutting the fuel. You can get the dealer to replace the Harness K, or just remove the Harness K relay and replace it with an aftermarket version.
I have had a Harness K kit in my Z06 for a couple of years with no problems, but I purchased and installed the kit myself before GM changed the part number on the kits and started having problems with relay failures.
If the lockplate has been removed, you do not need be concerned about the position of the actuator.

Sounds like you had the same problem I just went through. Light for Service Column Lock came on and did the same thing yours is doing. I installed the CLB I had purchased just in case this happened to me. It worked fine for 2 days. Went to get the plates for it and the light came back on at the DMV. Had to have it towed to the dealer. My recall had been done as well back in 2001. I have a 1998 that I purchased in May by the way. They told me that a relay went out and that the car mileage (64000) and the date of the recall being done was to long and I wound up paying for it. Over $500. I am in the process of trying to find out if the relay was in the Harness K or a different one located somewhere else. Sorry for the long story but I feel your pain. I don't know if the CLB burned the relay out or if it was just a coincidence. Buy your CLB from a reputable source though.

The Harness K kit is the GM part used in the recall.
Other aftermarket bypass kits are sold by forum vendors like ThunderRacing.
Whatever you do, it should not cost you $500. The Harness K kit is under $100, and the dealer should replace it as a continuing factory recall item. The other kits are $40-$50.
There is a picture of the GM kit in the sticky at the top of the TECH section.
