Headed out for work this morning.....little rain falling....about 1/3 throttle going along in 3rd gear...no spinning, sliding...straight road....very conservative driving....and the traction control kicks in..... whats up with that?....power comes back....now im in 4th gear....hits me again with some trction control action. I quickly hit the traction control button in the console and power comes back instantly...I turn the TC back on and it doesnt do it again the whole 10 miles to work.....not sure what to make of it...only has done it once before a few months back....not sure how TC works...off the abs? maybe I have a wheel sensor going? any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks in advance...Nick
Just a "little" rain loosens up much of the oil on the streets and creates a very dangerous slippery surface. Your tires may have been losing just a little traction.
I was barely on the throttle....wasnt spinning by any means but Im sure the computer system is a better judge than me.....I have had all types of perfomance cars my whole life...this just seemed odd to me....my tire sizes are 245's up front and 285's out back on 19's all around....I wasnt under enough power to cause the wheels to break traction by any means, they are only a month old so there was no way I was hydroplaning either....but like I said the computer is a better judge than my rearend Im sure...we'll have to keep an eye on it and see what happens...thanks guys...
Most rubber band (i.e. lower profile than stock)tires are not going to give good traction to begin with. Wider tires most certainly give less traction on slick surfaces.
As posted above, if you have tire diameters that are too close it can cause false activation.
Also, the early cars had much more aggressive traction control.
245/35/19 on the front and (my mistake) 275/30/19's on the back...Kuhmo's.....and the car is a 2000 FRC....M6 ...Dumped on factory front bolts and longer rears....maybe a small bump upset the suspension enough to activate the TC?
