Default Header install

Ok I am getting ready to do a header swap on my 99 FRC. I was reading through the LS1howto and noticed that they install a new air tube. My headers do not have a hookup for the air tube. Can I remove it and not use it? It also mentions O2 extenders, are those required also? Also to remove the air tube it says that the intake must be removed. Will I need an intake gasket set? Thanks!!!

brand LT'S?

intake gaskets can often be reused

American Racing headers do not need O2 extensions

Now the stock exhaust has two O2 sensors on each side. When I installed the headers and x-pipe I used just the rear ones. I put in a cat-less x-pipe. Did I do that right?

All the TPIS headers I've seen, and used, have had the air tubes on them. Are you sure they are TPIS and not the "Ebay Headers"??

I'm pretty sure that the rear O2 sensors are only to tell you when the cats have gone bad. I think you need to plug them into the front, and get a tuner or programmer to delete the rear O2 sensor codes. If the front ones do not reach, you can buy an adaptor to plug the rear sensors into the front's connection. I got mine from LGM.

The AIR tube is part of the emmissions, I'm pretty sure it dumps air in to the exahust when the engine is cold. If you remove it you will get codes/check engine light. I think it can also be tuned out by a programmer.

Well now you have me wondering.......what headers come with out the air tubes? Am I going to have a problem with them? I also put a cat-less x-pipe with a borla stinger in. What problems am I going to have? it is looking like I need to extend the front O2 sensor hook ups to reach

I'm sorry I just realized that I had a brain fart......they are TSP's not TPIS's.......Is that any better than the eBay headers that i keep hearing about?

Yes you can have a tuner turn off all the O2 sensors and also turn the air pump off.
My installer plugged the rear O2 sensor bongs and deleted them. My front O2s are installed and the air pump is working. No codes or CEL.You are correct..the front O2's and air pump work together...

I am guessing that this is going to sound stupid but someone told me that there is a way to properly bake a set of ceramic coated headers so that they will last longer......has anyone else heard of this?
