thinking about maybe putting some on my 97 coupe w/96k, the motor runs good, but is it a bad idea to use nitrous on her? could use some advise on what to expect out of useing it? what would be the least expensive route to go but still be a nice set-up? i dont even plan to race it, just basically want it because i dont need it. thanks
First: check the FI section
Second: Crusie on over to LS1tech, they have a ton of nitrous info there
Third: Make sure you have a stock tune on your computer. Advanced timing and nitrous don't do well together.
You should be safe with a 100 dry shot. Some may say you can go more, but I like to be safe. At least until I get my new motor put together.
Anything more and you will need to start upgrading IMO.
I'm sure the more experienced nitrous users will jump in soon, hang tight.
I wouldn't risk it, an engine with that many miles will be more likely to grenade and that would be expensive!!
not true at all. this isn't 1950 guys! i'd throw a 100-150 shot on a 100k mile ls1 anyday. the key is to first make sure you are working with a healthy engine to begin with. check the performance level of the injectors, fuel pump, relpace fuel filter, plugs, do compression test, so one and so forth. if it all checks out then have fun and spray the way!! i've seen many ls1's with well over 100k spray with no problems.
I am running a 100 wet shot, have been for about 3 years. Do the normal stuff: colder plugs, better fuel pump you should be fine. I have about 87,000 miles. I do get some detonation with a 150 shot, but I add a gallon of Xylene and it's gone...

Check out the engine block and all the seals to make sure. Milage isn't always a bad thing....as long as proper maintence and routine inspections are conducted.

If that's the case, then chalk one up for Vette technology!!
