The unthinkable happened yesturday, My Dad, in his absolutely perfect 01 milleniuem yellow coupe, 11,000 miles on it, back out of the garage and forgot his other car was behind him!! He was watching the front and sides thinking he was clear behind him and backed into his other car! luckily, the damage, becasue he was moving 1/2 mil/hr was two little , maybe 3/32 diameter circle chips. these are the only imperfections anywhere on this car, you get in and it still has the new smell!! as you can imagine he is very pi........, uhhh, upset! For those who have done it, what is the best way of touching this up and what is the best touch-up paint to use? any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Dan
but for something that small, it will not be easy, nor worth the time to match. MY is very very difficult to match.
I know the yellow is tough!! GM used a tinted clear coat to get the color to where it is! I was hoping someone dealt with this before and could enlighten me.
Someone? Anyone?
Unfortunately, it will never look perfect again without reshooting the back bumper.
A good shop can match the tint of the yellow close enough to fog it in over the damaged areas after they have been filled (if needed) and primed smooth), then a few layers of clear over the entire bumper cover. If the yellow is remotely close and they do a good job buffing the new clearcoat you will never know the car was hit.
It will never look right unless you shoot the entire bumper cover....that much I promise you.
Sorry to hear about that.....not fun being mad at yourself and we have all been there at one point or another.
Get it fixed ASAP so your Dad can start to forget about it....but try to do some homework and find a shop thats messed with that color before....its very tricky to get right.
Good luck,
Tony
PS....I know a very **** bodyshop in Long Island, NY that specializes in Vette's and do phenominal work (I lived there almost 40 years). Feel free to call or PM me if that is something you would consider. Office number is (661)257-8124 Ext. 109

The MY is very difficult to match. I purchased a touch up paint bottle from GM it was darn near a perfect match on my car. Every car is going to be different though. I've also had areas repainted by local body shops and none have been able to match the paint perfectly.

Well, I guess I will start with the GM touchup, if it's not good enough, no harm done, it will have to be sprayed
Thanks for the help guys!
