Default Resetting air bag codes/light

I have a 2000 corvette for which I had to replace both air bags and the SDM module. Is there a way to get the codes reset and the air bag light to reset without getting expensive diagnostic equipment or taking it into a shop? The light flashes 7 times when the ignition is turned on and then stays on steady. Thnks Al

Use the link above to learn how to read and erase codes without a scanner, I suspect the SDM wasn't synched to the BCM and you won't be able to reset that code.

Once you find out what codes you have, post them here for a little help

Al,

One of the codes you most likely will find is B1001.

The SDM comes pre-programmed with a unique serial number in it (SDM ID). The SDM needs to have you VIN number programmed into it, and the BCM has to have the SDM ID programmed intoo it.

When you start the car the SDM checks that the VIN number it has been programmed with matches the VIN in the PCM, and the BCM checks that the SDM ID it has programmed matches the one in the SDM. If the numbers don't match, the SIR system is disabled (which is what is happening to you now) and code B1001 sets.

To get the BCM and SDM programmed requires a Tech2 programmer. GM dealers have them, and some independant shops have them.

B1001 - read post #3 above
B0090 - The SDM (computer that controls the airbags) is getting an erroneous signal from the switch that controls the passenger side airbag.
B0051 - The SDM has fired the airbags. It is locked. The SDM needs to be replaced

You need to take the car to a person/shop that has a Tech2 programmer. Once you have cleared the B1001, it is MAYBE possible that the other codes can be cleared. There is no other option, to get the SIR system working, you will need someone with a Tech2 to get the system working again.
