LOL!! started working on the passenger side about 2 hours ago. I was having the same problem of the airtube fitting getting hung up. Removed both motor mounts and jacked up the motor...no luck. WTF..these were bought because of ease of installation according to the forum. Brought the motor back to the original position studied the situation...could get car towed to nearest muffler shop...then realized my mistake. I was trying to put the header in with the starter out and using that space when trying to position header from the bottom. Decided that since many have installed with the starter in i would position the header as if the starter was in. Went in like butter...about 3 minutes...so Steve and Patches were correct. Total time doing it right is about 5 min. max to position headers...and you don't have to loosen the motor mounts for 1 3/4 size pipes. My time... 2-days doing it wrong after jacking the motor up numerous times and taking the wrong angle.

Was this for the 1 3/4 or 1 7/8's ? I think the 1 7/8's are the ones that need the help.

They are the 1 3/4 size. I understand the 1 7/8 are more work and may require loosening the mounts. I actually thought ARH had accidentily shipped 1 7/8 because of my difficulties and went to measure when i saw the label on the box that said 1 3/4..lol.

The 17/8" must have a different shape than the 1 3/4 then. The difference between them is 1/16th" on either side where clearance would matter, How could they be so much harder to put in? I'm not doubting it and I havent done it but mechanically there must be a difference other than size.

I know that when i called Nick at ARH and told him i was having problems with the install, the first question he asked me was whether i had 1 7/8 or 1 3/4. He told me the 1 3/4 should just slide up and in many cases you don't have to remove the starter. It seemed that if i had the 1 7/8 he could or would understand my difficulties....of course this is an assumption. Best thing to do is call Nick or one of the installers (East Coast Corvettes, Vette Drs, A&A Corvette, EG, and others). Maybe they will post on the installation of 1 7/8's...Chris at East Coast posted earlier.
