Going to battle tomorrow...need your help!
My car locked up on Friday afternoon for the first time (since I've owned the car from 05) and I had it towed to the dealership because I have read bout this problem on the forum. (Too ignorant to think it would happen to me, I ordered the CLB on saturday)
Anyhow, she's in their lot now and they refuse to perform the 4006C recall procedure, claiming that it's been done. But only the 4006B has been done in 2004 by the previous owner. The 4006C doesn't show up on their GMVIS screen.
Any advice? I'm meeting with their Service Manager tomorrow and I have already sent him a copy of the 4006C Service Recall bulletin. I really just need it freed up so I can drive her home and install the CLB and get this thing out of the way once and for all.
P.S I'm in Canada, with an American imported car.
They were working on my car when I arrived despite my specific instructions not to until I speak with the manager. And sure enough, the service manager wasn't very helpful neither.
He was going to charge me up to $110 to find out what the problem was. I didn't need to pay $110 for them to tell me what's wrong with my car, I know what's wrong. GM &%&ed up. He kept arguing that it's all the same recall and the bulletin doesn't mean jack. The recall has been done.
So I took the keys back and went to work. Took out the panel, and hacked it a few time with the rubber mallet (didn't know where to hit though
) A few minutes later the manager came out and pretty much told me to leave, telling me I can't work on my car here, and went back inside.I felt defeated, I gave her a final try, with the jerk to the left-right method and POP! I was free! Don't know if it was the mallet technique or the left right method, but nonetheless I felt like a brand new corvette owner again. Drove out of the dearlership with the biggest grin on my face
Won't be going back there anytime soon. If anyone is from Richmond B.C Canada, I wouldn't recommend going to the Dennison Chevrolet, they are unfriendly, unhelpful, and very ignorant.
Thank you forum and everyone's help! I'll be waiting patiently for my CLB.

I would call GM directly - forget the dealer. Even if the recall was done - SO WHAT. The thing is still locking up so what was fixed?
Man, one call and I bet they get you some attention!

After arguing with customer service I finally got them to agree to fax over authorization to the dealer to go ahead and do 04006c (which requires the dealer to remove the locking plate completely, leaving you with no column lock.. the way GM wants it done). But that would take a few days and they broke and told me a quicker way...
Special Policy 05081 had NOT been done on my car (this requires the dealer to put in a smaller locking plate, one that the pins cant reach so therefor there IS NO more column lock). So they told me "this wont fix your problem because the computer still wont see the column lock motor as functional and although you will have free range of motion with steering, the computer will shut the fuel pump off after you hit 2mph because it thinks the column is still locked". I told them to just do it anyway because I would deal with the computer (thinking in the back of my head I would tow the car home and put the bypass module in to trick the computer into thinking everything was ok). They did it and wouldn't you know the computer had no problems. I drove the car home with no problems and installed the column lock bypass module just to be safe. Never had that "pull key wait 10 sec" message since. Everything seems fine. Saved myself the $800. Man these dealers are crooks!
Let me know if you need any more advice on this. I JUST dealt with all this last week so it's still fresh in my mind.
