Anyone else have this happen? This doesn't seem to cause the car to get hot, at all. I wouldn't have noticed that the fuse was blown except that I was checking fuses under the hood while the battery was out, last night. CoolFan2 is a 30 amp maxifuse.
I installed a new fuse and it didn't blow (yet, anyway). Has this happened to anyone else? Has anyone determined a root cause? Could I have a bad coolfan2 relay? I have no trouble codes. Note that the fan triggers have been reprogrammed to 207 and 212, respectively. The car runs at 192-196 95% of the time. As soon as the car hits 207 in traffic, it drops right down. It was very hot a few months ago and I think I saw 212 in traffic, once - but the fans brought it right back down, once they kicked into high.
Thanks, Bruce

Bruce. I just had a #2 cooling fan issue also. I blew a belt almost a year age and while I was cleaning the engine the other day, I spun the fan and it would hardly turn! I also noticed that there was a black piece of rubber stuck in the fan. So,,,I removed the fan shroud, removed the fan from the motor and this is what I found:
Removed the fan belt debris,, reassembled everything and all was well.
Fuse was fine. Even with a fan that would hardly rotate it didn't blow the fuse. Things that cause a fuse to blow are normally short circuits. I would examine the fan wiring and look for a chafed wire or even a poor connection.
Wow - that's a lot of rubber! Thanks for the advice. I'll have a look at the wiring and pull the connectors apart and see if there could be a bad connection. I haven't thrown a belt or anything, but I suppose anything is possible and a short doesn't seem too implausible. Napa can get me a new coolfan2 relay (NAPA part ECHAR167 = GM part 12193604) for 13 dollars, so I might try one of those if I can't find a problem with the wiring or the fan itself.
