Help!
Have '98 corvette.
Folded the driverside mirror to enable parking in tight spot. All was fine until return the next day. Mirror is now facing in downward position. All parts appear to be intact except that the mirror no longer clicks back into position. Anyone experience same situation and corrected it? If so how??? Any comments appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Do a search. A common problem. I am facing the same issue. There is a "how to" post somewhere. Once I get mine fixed, I will quit turning them. They break easy. Another GM engineering wonder.
around $200 to 300.00 to fix if you bring it to a dealer.
or buy a used one, if your lucky you can pick one up in the same color.
my passenger side mirror crapped out on me - I just used some gasket seal and super glue and no more droopy mirror, sure it wont turn in but who needs that, it's a cheap fix. More money for mods!

There is a multi step how to remove your door innerds and cut the wires and then remove the mirror and drill a hole in the shaft etc.
OR
you can just GLUE the top and bottom together.
I used GOOP.on my passenger mirror about 2 years ago.
Doesn't turn but neither did my mirror ion my 62 Chrysler. BIGHANK
There are defnitely tons of threads on this, including the repair process. I just repaired my passenger mirror and then took a trip to the car wash on Monday and the brain surgeon went to fold my mirror in so the brushes didn't break it, and I told him not to, and he broke my drivers side. I didn't even feel like raising a stink, though it would have been nice for the $3 carwash to pay for my $300 mirror. Right now I used one forum members suggestion of the 3M "all weather" super double sided sticky tape. It says it holds 5 lbs but I can verify that it will hold up to 140mph+! (Of course that was on a closed course, off public highways). Once I get time to rip the door apart and repair that other mirror, I'll consider it...but right now the double sided tape is working great!
The problem is the use of a heavy duty spring that slips over a shaft inside the mirror and is held in place with a thin one way retainer it pops of and your stuck, you can drill a hole on the inside of the mirror base and use a self tapping screw to secure it.
