Default The numbers game.

Well, thanks to my slave cylinder dying on me I cut my modification plans in half. but, lets play the number game. I have a 97 coupe 6MT and right now its in the shop getting LS7 clutch/flywheel/pp as well as rear main seal (yenno, while you're in there), slave cylinder, changing trans and diff fluids, all seals, Corsa Pace car exhaust with pro tips, a VaraRam intake, and then getting dyno tuned for an agressive map. what do you think i will see to the wheels?? VR claims up to 40 HP with the intake, Corsa says ~15-20 with exhaust, and Tune says between 10-20 HP. what say ye bretheren?

I'm guessing somewhere in the 320 to 340 range. Remember, all those numbers from the different companies are not cumulative as far as final hp number is concerned.

Remember these are manufacturer/marketing claims. It's really ricer math to add things up. Not even sure what an agressive map is. My guess would be you're going to add about 10-15 to the wheels total.

what about to the crank? also, Im looking to stop modding at about 400 to the wheels. what would be the most cost effective way to get there?

I agree, just remember a stock 97 would have 345 at crank, probably 285-300 at wheels. you need it to breath. get headers and then you will see 320+ RWHP

Putting your car on drugs will do it for $500-$600 range. Otherwise H/C is about the only way.

Can anyone here explain to me how modifications work together to bring out a cars potential? morseo, I suppose I am guilty of using semi-"ricer" math. and why manufacturers advertise "x" number of HP gains with a said product. Ive never modded with a HP goal in mind before, its always been bigger turbo, better motor, etc. so gains and potentially losses were never accounted for. thanks. Just trying to be a better enthusiast here.

Think of it as a "sum of the whole" concept. There are many complex inter-relationships and interactions between the various parts individually, but when all added together things may, and usually do, change.
Each part may add the individual gain to the engine as tested thus keeping the Federal Trade Commission and consumer fraud wolves away from their door, but someones else's part(s) may or may not respond hp-wise in a given combination.
Ultimately, it's the combination of parts that's the real key.
Simple, huh?
