Default Fast install help

Ok so I got everything put together, the car is now not idling by a long shot. I have to give it more than 1/2 throttle to just keep the car idling and then about 30-45 seconds in the car took off to redline and stayed there. what's going on? I'm sure this has come up before, the car hasn't been tuned yet, but I didn't think it would be this bad. What's probably going on?

5000 rpm idle, I can step on it and it'll rev more. Very scary to have the engine take off like that. Is this just a tuning issue?

Sounds like a big vacuum leak. Mine did that when I intalled it, and cracked the bottom by not switching the valley cover bolts. (Bought used with no instructions, DOH!)

Yep, sounds like a major vacuum leak. Did you change the valley bolts? There are three ports, the one on the back on top typically used for the MAP, a port on the rear passenger's side and forward driver's side. Then there is the monster port for the brake booster. If all of those are closed off, you need to look elsewhere. Did you bend down the forward coolant pipe that runs between the heads under the throttle body? Do you have the updated coolant pipe setup (rear block off's)?

There wasn't anything about valley bolts in the ls1howto.com write up. What are they?

I didn't "hear" any cracking during the install, I just went out and loosened all 10 bolts so the pressure would be off the base, I'll take it back out tonight and see if it broke. I only tightened it down using the long end of the allen wrench, so there wasn't a huge amount of pressure, I'm just hoping I don't have a $900 piece of junk now.

This is what they look like. The black one is the one of the button head bolts that comes with the FAST, the stainless ones in the bag I bought to install but never did. Make sure its not resting on the front coolant crossover pipe either, this will keep it from seating. The manifold should rest against the heads with no gap, if there is a gap then either something is preventing it from going all the way down or it isn't tight enough. Since you have to pull it to check for cracks also verify that it is not touching anything.

Mine was way past JB weld. However, you can just replace the bottom piece of the three for about $300. Don't ask me how I know.

how tight did your turn it? I didn't hear any cracks and I'd imagine that if it broke that bad I'd have heard something, plus this is ported by vengeance, so they'd have to do the work again.

Z...

Just pull the intake....my bet is your intake is hanging up on the bolts and hopefully you didnt crack it....just have major vacuum leaks from it not sitting low enough on the head for the gaskets to do there job. In fact IMO that scenario is more likely with the gross amount of airleak it appears you have.

If I'm right you replace the bolts and get off cheap (and a little lucky). If I'm wrong you confirm the you cracked the lower half and either JB weld the holes or replace the lower unit.

Either way problem solved....the first scenario a little less painful to the wallet.

Good luck and report back....

Tony

no cracks!!!!

Although I can see the grooves where the bolts were hitting, don't know why I never checked it, but there was like 1-2mm of gap.

Got the intake out in 20 minutes, also in case anyone is wondering, if you take the bracket that holds the power steering fluid off, you can pull the whole intake and put it back in with the throttlebody already on it. Put the throttlebody on the intake when it was in the car, MUCH harder to do it that way.

I'll report back when I get this mess sorted out.
