The only idea I can think of is your car battery. How good is it?? As my battery was giving up, the car stopped responding to the key fob. Wasn't too long until the battery was toast. Replaced battery and key fob worked again too.

Had the same issue and the 12 VDC battery can and will cause the issue. If you start the engine, the battery voltage will drop low enough for the FOBs to loose SYNC. Have you tried to press the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons at the same time until the horn toots to re sync the fobs when they stop working? If you have to constantly re-sync it could be the 12 VDC battery or the FOB is just bad. They do go bad. Do you have a spare FOB?

the FOBs eventually die. It's sad and very annoying, but it happens.

If you have a 97-98 you'll need the remote with the passive feature around $80-100

If you have a 99+ C5 you will not need the passive feature remote and they're much less expensive. Around $30

another possibility is the receiver inside the car, but I would check the battery first

Default Bad FOB

Same thing happened to me last week the programming only held for 1 or 2 entries then stopped working until programmed again. Had a spare FOB and everthing works fine so the FOB went bad. My 99 has the passive feature on it.

I'm having a similar issue. My remote quit working, so I replaced the battery and re sync'd the remote, but the car honked twice at me. and the remote will work at that instant, but when I lock the car, it will honk twice and when I unlock the car, I can hear it unlock twice, but when I come back to the car 20 min later, it wont work at all. I tried my other remote, it didn't work at all so I replaced the battery in it and the same thing happens. I have no clue what's wrong and I can't get it to work.

I had that same problem, I replaced the battery and it still would not work, so I took the whole thing apart, and looked at the little metal contacts that connect to the battery, I slightly bent them to make better contact with the battery, and had no more issues to date.

The 97-00 fobs will work on the 97-00 C5s. I have both kinds of fobs on my '98. The 97-99 fobs have the PASSIVE ENTRY SWITCH which is a PITA. All of these fobs ARE EXPENSIVE. Got 3 on fleebay for abt $65 ea. Have FCCID AB00216T. Now they are going there for abt $95 or MORE. 2001 and up fobs are DIFFERENT and much cheaper. Can't use em on 97-00 C5s. BIGHANK

One of best sites for remotes is:

http://www.keylessride.com/?OVRAW=Ke...ID=22547313011

1998 Remote = $124 (Gene has it cheaper)

2000 Remote = $119

2001 Remote = $19

Most probably your keyfob battery contact is not making good contact with the battery. The spring battery contact is quite fragile, but you can bend it outward a little bit and you should be good to go. If the battery contact spring has broken, then solder a piece of metal on to it (you can use a piece of wire, just keep it long and loop it around a bit).

You guys must not own a 2000. Those FOBs will work on a 2000 ONLY. No other year. The PN is 10432147 and they sell for around $90. And yes they do go bad. I've had 2 go bad on me so be warned if you're thinking about buying used.

If needed, buy NEW GM fobs from Gene Culley. They come in sealed GM wraping.

Keith,

I currently use a 2000 fob on my 98 C5. I corrected the FCCID number in my other post, it is AB00216T and the ONLY DIFFERENCE in the 2000 fob and the 97-99 fob is the absence of the passive entry slider switch.
Look on the back of your 2000 fob. Forget the part number, look at the FCCID #, it will be as I stated above BIGHANK

I scrapped the factory system... its a real POS!! You will have problems with it forever....its just a bad product. I replaced it with the Clifford security system about 4 years ago..its worked perfectly and it notifies me if the car is touched....from about 300 feet away. It also remotely opens the gas flap!
