Default Dyno-Tune; Significant Benefit??

Well I'm going for it, just wondering overall if it is worth the $500.
I like the idea of optimizing, and improving the fan range, etc.
Just how much added power can be expected? I already have improved air box and exhaust.
Someone said improved economy is possible, is that true? Thanks

with your current mods, not worth it yet.
dyno tune should be done after major mods like heads/cam, or FI

a street tune is better for 1/2 the price

would it be worth a dyno tune if you have full exhaust, cold air and simple bolts on? i know a guy that will tune my car with his laptop by driving on the road and adjusting the torque control on accel and changing timing and fuel curves and getting rid of all the stuff that GM put in for emissions and to be nice to the drivetrain for 300.... worth it?

A dyno is a great tool if your car has a problem area ( like most cammed cars do ). It can hold it at an RPM range while the tuner corrects the problem.

Dyno tuning gives you concrete results, as opposed to a street tune. Although, a good tune would consist of both.
For a bolt on car, or basically a stock car, 500 is pretty steep, depending on where you are. Thats probably an average price in Cali.
You'll see results that vary from just a few HP to 20+ at the wheels.
There is alot of stuff that makes a big difference in the driveability, but may not make any HP. But to turn this stuff off, and tweak the trans tables, it def not worth 500 bucks.

Most shops should allow credit for a re-tune at a low price if you add mods. Always worth it in my opinion.

Where do you live, your profile is not complete. If your near Carlisle, Pa then go to the Corvettes @ Carlisle show the end of the month. The Vette Drs and ECS are combining to do on site tuning for $99. Also there is another vendor doing dyno runs and if you find an issue with your tune afterwards, they will adjust it for you.

You don't say if your car is an automatic or manual. A street tune will make a big difference in an automatic, regardless of mods, because it removes the torque management and optimizes your shift points.

There are several ways to improve your fuel mileage (which is already great to begin with). You can lower the settings on the Deceleration Fuel Cut Off table so that all fuel and spark is shut off whenever you lift your foot from the gas. You can also "trick" your 02s to have the car run a little leaner in your cruise range. I have over 350 hp at the wheels and I average 24-26 mpg around town and 32-35 on the highway. And this is not driving conservatively in an attempt to get improved mileage. I enjoy driving spiritedly.

Hey there...

Dyno tuning is not the same as street tuning..... Usually, when a dyno tuned car (especially automatics) come in to our shop...It's easy to tell....

Dyno tuning typically neglects the "under the curve" portion of the tune and it is not sufficient to just check the tune on the street or drive around for 15 mins to make it right. It takes hours and many adjustment to make the vehicle perform the best it can be from a performance, mileage, manners, and emissions compliance standpoint.

If you have any questions feel free to call us any time.

If you have a professional tune done to your car, make sure you accept and understand the type of software they use. You need to know whether they lock the computer to "protect" their tuning secrets. That could cause you grief in the future if the computer is locked.
It might benefit you to start by asking on this specific CF forum for recommended and not so recommended tuners/software/hand held vs. dyno/mail order/new pcm, etc...

Do a search and read as much of the past discussions pros/cons of this as possible.

We do not lock the tunes here....although many do. We also keep a copy of the tune if it needs to be reflashed back in.

Default A very good practice.....

It is a very good practice to keep original tunes.... I myself maintain a library of over 1,000 original factory tunes in three separate locations for safety.....

Aside from a good thing to keep for the customer, it allows me to repair the butchered up tunes that come in here from time to time.

I've got my own little "tune repository" if anyone ever needs one...just ask....

Stay Tuned!
