My cousin also owns a C5 (his is what made me get one too). It is a 98, automatic, and he has these questions for the forum:
Number 1: My shifter is giving me a problems. With the automatic they have a square **** on top that you depress (while putting your foot on the brake) in order to shift from park. I can press it all the way down and nothing happens, with some playing it eventually releases and I can shift it into gear. Worse when not used overnight. Is it an adjustment problem, is the brake pedal sensor not working or is there another reason.
Number 2: I replaced my brake pads all the way around but now they squeak. Delco has some upgraded rotors that are drilled and slotted, more for looks rather than racing, any feedback on the message boards on these? What are people using as brake rotor and pad combinations?
Any help you can offer for my cousin will be appreciated by him and me! Thanks guys and gals. Jon
Your shifter lockout is controlled by a solenoid under the console. If I remember correctly, take the console apart and there are two wires, with a connector, going to the shifter, (It will be more obvious when you open it up). That connector is what powers the solenoid, if the connector comes apart, you can shift the car out of Park without pressing the break. That would be a safety hazard, so I would never think of recommending that you unhook that connector for more that a controlled test!
