Default Shifter Sticking C5 6 speed

I have a 2000 C5 with 6 speed and about 20K miles. I'm having a problem with the shifter. I have a really hard time putting it in first gear when I stop a a light and it sometimes seems hard to shift to 2nd and 3rd.....although it does find the gear.

Am I supposed to be lubricating the linkage? Does anyone else have this problem and if so how do I fix it?

Thanks

There is no linkage, it's an internal rail design. It's similar to an old VW linkage or late model Mustang linkage. There is no external linkage to adjust or lubricate. It's an enclosed lever on a spherical bearing connecting to a shifting rod in the transmission.
It could be that your rubber cushions beneath the shifter mechanism (torque tube) have deteriorated. It could be that the shifter mechanism has loosened on the base beneath the mechanism.
It could be that a simple adjustment (do a search using keywords "shifter alignment" or "shifter adjustment" and you'll find plenty of past discussions). Basically, you're loosening the shifting mechanism up, making sure it's all sitting plumb and straight to the base, neutral pin aligned, lubing the plastic cup and re-torquing to spec. I think that covers it (?). It's fairly common with use/miles.
Worst case scenario, you might need new shifter forks, especially if yours are the older design since replaced with the metal improved version.
Post your location, maybe someone on CF could give you a helping hand.

If you take the shifter off the base you can examine it for wear and lubricate the mechanism in there. I greased mine up and it seems to shift easier. Still not great but a lot better and I'm just thinking that with 100k miles mine is showing it's wear. You have to pull the console and a plate on top of the tunnel to get to it.
