What is the collective experience, how long does the brake master cylinder last?
Time?
Miles?
Replace with 100K major mantenance?
What do you think/what did you do?
My car will be eight years old next month, it's on my mind!
We have seen almost no failures with the C5 master cylenders. A fluid flush & change will be highly recomended, but that is about it. And there really is no 100,000 mile major maintenance....change all fluids, belts, hoses, but that is about it. Expect 250-300,000 miles plus before you need an engine reuilt, and if you don't abuse it the trans should last near as long. Do a search on C5 high mile cars and you will be amazed at how many have 150-200-250k miles on them & still not burning oil, etc.
My 1999 had a master cylinder problem that was causing the front brakes to hold pressure. It only has 27,000 miles on it. The fluid looked contaminated but flushing it out did not help. I replaced the master cylinder for under 200 hundred dollars.
I would not mess with it unless there is something wrong with it. Flushing the fluid probably would not hert.
