Doing new rotors and pads on a 2001 A4.Do I have to remove the parking brake bracket and cable to remove the rear rotors and can I beat them with a mallet to get them off?
Mine came off with some difficulty, but they did come off. From what I have read here on the posts, that is the time to adjust your parking brake as well. The little wheel with the notches is the adjuster. Are you painting your calipers too?
You have to uncouple the E brake line from its socket, but that was easy pulling it out with needle-nose. Replaced my rotors, pads, calipers (everything A-Z, complete overhaul) myself a few weeks ago, rear rotors were very hard to get off. They were stock and had been on for 3 years. The rust was unexpected and likely contributed to the stick. I gently pried with a big screwdriver at alternating opposite points tween the rotor and hub, tapping it in lightly with a hammer each time. Then suddenly they popped off. DO NOT MALLET THE ROTOR, it could damage the hub and axle. Also make sure you don't have the E brake on by the way. LOL ...
