What are you running for pressures on these tires? I have them at the GM recommended pressures for my Z06, but wondering if they should be a little higher for better performance. Thanks.
The guys racing the Toyo RA1s start in the low 20s cold.
Then again racing increase tire pressure very quickly.
The big mistake that ppl have is more pressure is better performance, when lower starting air pressure give greater grip and more tire foot print on the pavement.
The max air pressure you se on the sidewall typically indicates the maximum air pressure that can be used to seat the tire on the wheel bead. There are also air pressureslisted based on the maximum weight carrying capacity of the tire. These pressures shoud not, IMHO, really be used to determine what a given tire pressure would be for the car. There are too many factors that determine the proper air pressure for how the car is used.
I have the older Toyo T1-S tres and I run 30psi on my 02 coupe which is what is recommended on the driver's door tire inflation sticker. For autocross, I will usually run 32-34psi in front as that seems to help keep the sidewall stiffer and also helps with understeer. In the back, I stay at 30psi. As the tires get hi=ot, I will adjust the pressures as needed or change the front pressure to help with handling.
Look on the sidewall for the max psi, put them 10 psi lower than that, see how they wear, adjust accordingly.
I run T1Rs on the track and I start with 33 rear 34 front cold. After a session they're about 38/39 and the pyrometer gives a nice even reading across the entire tread.
