Default Marbles in a tin can @ idle

All,

Recently I had to replace my clutch (been there done that) due to an oil leak thus getting oil onto the clutch disk. At the same time I installed a rebuilt tranny as I think my original had suffered some damage. Maybe it didn't but I'm hoping this is the last time I have to remove the drivetrain.

Anyhow, now I have a marbles in a tin can rattle that comes and goes at idle. The car has a cam so it shakes a little which I think makes it worse. Of course the sound goes away when depressing the clutch so I assume I now have the infamous rattle sound but at idle not when just turning the car off.

Does anyone else have a car that has the tin can rattle at idle? I wonder if the new tranny has increased the noise level?

Just curious...

I'm thinking all normal, but it's strange it doesn't rattle when you turn the car off in neutral and clutch out.

Sorry....the car DOES rattle if I don't depress the clutch when turning it off....always has always will....gotta love that design.

My 02 Zee's tranny will rattle just a little bit at idle if it's really hot. Ohterwise, it's pretty quiet, but no cam in my Zee.

I'm assuming your idle speed is still around 800 rpm? If not, that could change the way it rattles at idle also.

Sounds like normal noise. It's a known phenomenon. Don't worry about it.

I posted up something about this not to long ago.

I have a stage V RPM tranny with the works and hardend mainshaft. Also have one aluminum torque tube coupler and textralia twin.

I have the same marbles in a can sound you have in tranny. Everyone said it was normal.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the responses. Its a pisser that its doing this now and it didn't before. I wonder if the DTE brace I installed is also aggravating the issue. I don't think it would be who knows.

I get the same noise when the clutch is out....A cam and really low idle speed will make it worse.

My 04 has done this since new. I hate it, but have learned to live with it. Its the only issue I have with the car, so I just try to ignore it.
