98-coupe, 6-spd, F45 ride control. My F45 shocks have gone south and I am replacing them with C6Z06 shocks. Long story short, I need to delete the F45 ride control option from my BCM. This did not work out as simple as it sounded. The last time I did it, the option re-appeared. I had not disconnected the ride controller. Are the following 3 steps right?
Once you've deleted the F45 with the tech II (Search for F45 Delete - there are LOTS of detailed writeups on the correct procedure) Do NOT plug the RTD module back in! The computer will automatically re-add the F45 option...
My F45 shocks were worn out - and i replaced them with C6Z06 shocks too - and did C5 Z06 sways while i was at it - HUGE difference.
Thanks a bunch 99FewteRC5 for the "key off" reminder. I've already spent some moolah for deleteing F45 wrong the first time, so being careful this time -wifey not likey wasting money . LF97C5Vette many have recommended that I do the sway bars too while at it, so thinking should go that route.
You could do it yourself if you have access to the tech2.
Be sure to add the metal end links with the Z06 sway bars. I too went to c6z shocks and next will add fe4 (zo6) springs to complete my suspension upgrade. Absolutely love the difference the sways, links and shocks have made to the performance and ride of this great car a must mod imho
The GM TECH II is GMs do all, be all premier scanner. It is rather expensive and normally service centers, dealers, automotive business purchase them. Unless you get one through dark markets, the cost is prohibitive ($1500-$3500. Then you need to make sure that it has all the updated software. Its not your run of the mill $100. ACTRON type scanner.
Even if you had one, there isn't a button that says delete the F-45 shocks. You would need to scroll through a whole bunch of screens find the correct functions and then make the appropriate check marks or remove the check marks in the function block and then up-load the information to the BCM or PCM. For the RPO F-45 or F-55 deletion/addition you program that function in the BCM.
Hell, most people cant even program their own tire pressure sensors or read their own DTC's using the diagnostic software built into the C5 let alone use a TECH II!
GM C5 and C6 standard shocks are pretty much a very simple bolt in swap even for the F-45 & F-55 systems. They all fit the same and mount the same. I installed all four C6 ZO6 shocks on my 02 C5 ZO6 in about an hour and a half using simple hand tools. I think the hardest part of the entire process was keeping them compressed while installing them. I compressed them by hand, used some simple steel wire to keep them compressed. Once they were in place, cut the wire and presto, thats it. Install the bolts and your done.
Radio Shack 10 ohm/10watt resistors (4). Cut wire going to F45 shock and solder/connect the resistor into the wire.
Worked for me when I installed my PFADT's in place of F45's.
Sooo, I'm having this problem where after disabling the F-45, the service ride control is gone, but the "Maximum Speed 80MPH" remains. F45 is gone from the BCM. Could this be because we made the change in the key-on position?
We were going to plug the module back in so the F45 code goes back in the BCM, putting the key in the off position, re-removing the module, removing the DTC's with the Tech II, then deleting the RPO. Think that would work?
Hey, I know I am digging up an old post, but I am in this boat too.
I have an 04 Z06. I took it in so that the dealer could install the sensor and enable automatic headlights. While he was in the BCM, he managed to turn on RPO F45.
So when I picked the car up, I got a service suspension error message then the "Maximum speed 80mph" message.
We grabbed a Tech2 and turned off RPO F45, which got rid of the service suspension message, but the "Maximum speed 80mph" thing is still enabled.
We did try to configure the BCM with the key in the off position, as mentioned here. It was odd...it could read the BCM, but when we tried to flash it, it showed a communication error and did not write.
If anyone has any insight into how to kill that Maximum speed 80mph thing, please let me know.
Thanks!
~Jason
Oh, I should also note that I had them install tire pressure sensors on the same trip, but I don't believe that you have to go into the BCM to enable those.
