These synthetic oils are the culprit. I was told by a good friend who owns a Firestone Quick Lube that the synthetics are prone to run through the car. He advises the same 5w30 in a none synthetic.
1 quart per 2k miles. I know why but don't really care. The car was meant to be driven hard. Besides, from the look of the oil, it's already time to change at 2k miles. :yesnod:

:bs My Porsche's never used oil. Why did GM change production on the rings and pistons if it is not a design error? Why are dealers replacing rings on C5's all over the country? Why do some C5's use oil and other not?
If you drive WOT a lot you might use oil, if you downshift and coast or drive in other conditions with low throttle / high rpm's you will use oil.

Re: Poll Does your C5 use oil? (Richin Chicago)
Mine hardly uses any. Just took a vacation trip with it, PA to Skyline, then Florida, and back. About 3300 miles, no usage. Car has 13,500 on it, has had very little oil usage in that time., about 1.5 to 2 qts total. :)
C5Cemo,
should have know people were going to drive them hard. So why did they change the piston rings? Also, oil dirty after 2000 miles? Something doesn't seem right. M1 has a drain life of 10,000 miles. Shouldn't be good for at least another 3000 miles even with hard driving. That is if the filter is doing its job and keeping the oil clean. Unless the combustion products are getting into the oil... something to think about. Also I have been doing some research and found that Amsoil has better numbers then M1. Specifically, its flash point, High temp/High shear, and % wt. loss during High temp conditions. See the amsoil site under SAE 5W30. http://www.amsoil.com/products/asl.html and let me know what you think.
:hat I plan on switchen to Amsoil at the next change. The dealership want to monitor my consumption for the next 3000 miles.
I change my oil every 3000 miles and I don't use any oil at all between oil changes.maybe I am lucky or its my driving habits,i don't know. :chevy :flag :flag :chevy (stars and stripes forever)
I just had my oil changed 1400 miles ago, am already below the add mark. Taking the 2001 to dealer to find out what is going on. I am NOT a hard driver and see no reason for this kind of oil consumption on a car w/less than 10,000 miles.
I took my car out yesterday after it sat in the garage for about a week. First thing I noticed was every time I excellerated the oil pressure went up. when the engine was cold the pressure would get up to around 60 psi. After it warmed up the pressure would get up to around 53 psi at 3000 rpms. This gives more reason to suspect the rings have excessive bypass. And if oil is looking dirty after a couple 1000 miles would indicate compustion products on the oil side of the pistons. :nonod: I will talk to the dealer about this next week. meanwhile does anyone know what web site gm has set up that posts recall information?
