Are there any inexpensive scanners out there for setting fans temps?

Good question, I'm listening also! There are aftermarket switches and adjustment items available though it you look in the search area or through some of the sponser web sites.

To change the temps with a scanner you will need one with bidirectional cables. These are you high end scanners. HPTuners and EFILive are the more popular. However, they are also used for tuning and therefore cost $500+. You might look for an older version of the above from someone who has used all the tuning licenses. These go for around $300. Maybe someone from the forum has one to sell.

The advantages of these scanners/tuners are they do more than just read codes, enhanced codes, etc. The bidirectional features alows you to do more resetting of certain parameters other than tuning.

Referring to your mention of tuning licenses, I just called Hypertech. I was advised that if their "used" programmers read the correct VIN# of your target vehicle, you're good to go, with all functions of the programmer intact and available, as if the programmer were new. IE', I'm told that there is no diminution of it's intended purpose, because of any "prior user's" licensing restrictions.

It is essential, however, that the seller of the used unit reload this/her target vehicle with it's original factory settings (stored in the unit), thus restoring the Hypertech to it's full usefulness.
