Default Clutch problem

Just started having an issue with the clutch. It seems like it won't engage until I pump a few times after start up. I don't see any signs of a leeak but apparently there must be something going on with the hydrolics or vacumn? Is there any testing I can perform before having it "professionally" looked at?

Thank you

Prepare to be inundated by the devotees of Ranger. Of course, in this case, they'd be right.

Is that "engage" or "disengage"? Either way, it is probably your slave cylinder. Lots of threads on problems related to this if you search for sticking clutch. Once it works, do you continue to have problems with it?

Suggest as a first self-help step you invest an hour and $10 to clean up your clutch fluid. The why and how are covered here: Taking Care of Your Clutch

If that cures the issue, you're in better shape. If not, it's on to swapping parts that involve expense and inconvenience.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the replies. Actually, I started praticing Ranger's process about a month ago...perhaps too late it appears. I'll check for posts on the slave cylinder.

Thx again.

whats the mileage, clutch and mods of your car?

If you need to change the slave, change the master as well. If you are going to change the slave, (and now the master) think about replacing the clutch while you are in there so its done.

I will warn you though CHANGE THE PILOT BEARING I took apart my drivetrain twice before I found that a 12$ bearing was causing all sorts of gear grinding /weird issues. Swapped that and VOILA all was glorious again.

See if you can team up with a local crew to knock it out. Its not tough, just a lengthy process. All I will say is buy 2 tranny jacks from harbor freight, best $100 I spent!
