Default Cams C5 (2002)

Alrighty guys/gals
I just got my car and love it. I have been reading about cams and sets ups that everyone has done and I am thinking that I wanna put one in mine. The car is bone stock but i would like to get 400rwhp out of it. Now with this being said I am active duty military so i cant do all my mods at once? The only thing i have done so far is borla ehxaust. so here are a couple of questions for everyone.
1. Do I have to change springs when i change cam?
2. What kind of horse power can I expect on dyno from cam swap.
3. Can I run the cam with the stock tune and get the tune later. Is it goinig to hurt my motor?
4. I want a big cam. love the Idle/lope of it.

I value all of your opions thanks in advance in helping me make my car better.........

Yes you will have to change the springs if you want a big cam. Depending on what kind of mods you do in the future the 400 RWHP is an attainable goal but with just exhaust as your only mod now ou will be looking and something around the 350 to 360 range. You can drive your car without a tune but it will not be much fun and is not recommended especially if you want a big cam. While it won't hurt your motor the car is just going to run like crap and with a big cam it probably won't even idle at all. The largest cam you can run in your car with stock heads and without having to fly cut your pistons is something along the lines of our Whiplash cam that is in my car. If you have any more question just le me know and I can do my best to andwer them for you. Check out my signiture for a video and the dyno sheet for my car. It currently has the whiplash in it.

You can gain 50 hp with just a cam and exhaust?

you're going to need to gain 100 hp off a cam, and that is going to be extremely hard to do, and would probably not be safe, your going to need more than that to get to 400 safely. You could do it with the mods in my sig, but you'd have to swap out enough stuff to make your engine comparable to mine stock.

Otherwise a massive cam, long tubes, intake, and tune might be enough to get you there.

Kooks lt's, kooks x pipe, cai, pulley, t stat, b&b prt catback, cam: 238/242 .609/.615 on 111lsa, netted me 399 corrected hp(uncorrected 431 hp). I think I had all the previous installed for around $4K. Going on now: prc ls6 stage 2 heads(milled to 59 cc's), ported fast 90, ported throttle body, yella terra rr's, and a flycut on the pistons. I think my cam is about as big as you can go without flycutting, and I think I was pushing it. I am hoping to be above 460 when done. Hope this helps.
