2001 LS1 Convertible, 58,000 mi. When i startup in the morning I get lifter noise that goes away after a few blocks, no noise on warm start. Is this something that I need to adress? Good oil pressure and I am using Mobile 1, 10W30

You sure its not the normal piston slap most of the LS1's have @ cold start up?
Could be but it sounds like a lifter to me. I originally used 5W30 and didn't notice any noise, could changing the weight of the oil make a difference?

It could but it depends on what weight you went to?
The last oil change I went to 10W30, I think I will go back to 5W30 and see what happens
Yea I would use what the car calls for - 5w-30, I ran 10x30 for autocross and did notice more engine noise upon cold startup but 5w-30 is going back in in a couple days
Its a bit unusual to hear of lifters going bad at only 58,000 miles on it. They will eventually go bad. I had to replace mine about 2.5 years ago. It started with the lifters tapping foir a few seconds and progressively got longer and longer till it would go away. Eventually it would only go away after the engine temp would start to show on the cluster, then all of a sudden, the lifter noise got bad. I took it to the dealer to have them confirm my suspicions and they did...lifters bleeding down when cold was there response. They were worn out. I replaced them all, along with the pushrods, rockers and had the heads processed at an engine shop while it was apart. Problem solved.
