Mine very seldom kicked in, but when it did, it was at an inopportune time and it was a pain. Since I installed the bypass, the light has only come on a few times, but it is nice knowing that I don't have to shift into 4th, and then down shift back into 2nd to get the power needed. Plus, I bought a 6 speed so I could control the shifting, not the car.
It didn't bother me until I started noticing it being a safety issue for me in low-speed turns. Years of driving have made me shift into second when I'm turning left but going slow. If I had to get out of the way for something, being stuck in 4th gear all of a sudden meant I was trapped. So I nixed the CAGS. Certainly that was easier and cheaper than trying to unlearn that habit.
Otherwise it never bothered me.
I am with you on that one....The only time I have had the CAGS operate has been under the above scenario. Fortunately, I wasn't in any immediate need of acceleration and aborted the 1st to 4th shift by choosing 3rd. Normally, I never run into it during straight line acceleration since I rarely shift below 20 mph. However, because of the above scenario which happened to me about 3 times, I may get the bypass to feel a bit more secure.
