Default Wet passenger carpet.

This is my first post and my first vette.

Im having the problem with the carpet getting wet in the passenger floor... evidently this is common im presumeing?

I started by pulling the carpet all the way back up leaving just the bare floor and letting everything dry.

I kinda got a start on figureing it out but i still need some help. I read a tsb talking about exterior leaks, so I flooded the cowl and surrounding areas and the floor is still dry.

at this point Im presumeing its the AC but I have some mixed results with this, I let it idle with the ac on for about 20 minutes today and I did not see any water coming into the cabin. The hose on the firewall appears to be very hard to get to but I could see with a flashlight some water coming out, But again I couldnt tell it there might be a problem there.

Where does the line go into the inside I couldnt find it? Any information is useful, as im tired of my vette smelling like a wet dog when I leave it parked

At the top of the C5 Tech page, you will see 5 threads. Look at the one from Bill Curlee labeled "Sticky: Leak Checks".

I think that information will help you

If you have a blocked evaporator drain. Water will leak from the blower motor.

Back off on the accelerator. Your passenger has a weak bladder.

90% caused by clogged HVAC drain! You could also have a bad seal around the door or door hinges. My sticky covers almost all the issues.

Ive been very successful with mine and helping others fix their leaks. You did right by removing the carpet and letting it dry out. It SUX to get the MOLD caused by the wet carpets!

Find the leaks, fix them and them reinstall your carpets.

Clean out your HVAC drain (just behind passenger side head) and your wiper udders.

I had the same problem recently, Bill Curlee and others walked me through the solution. Try a search for "CBuchanan" in the last four weeks. It should save you some time and effort.
Good luck,
Carl

I had a problem this week up at Carlisle with my brothers FRC.

Some idiot that owned the car before me replaced the blower motor with some after market model that did not have a seal around it or a drain hose.

Well we turned on the air conditioning due to the heat and the water from the air conditioning system soaked everything including the BCM and shut us down.

Luckily we had a few hand tools and found some newspaper to dry up the area and the BCM. Made into Auto Zone and bought some more paper towels, rags and some plastic to cover BCM.

We limped it home. Don't drive around with leak as you may end up shut down.

We pulled the passengers seat and carpet out. Turned on the air and my brother drove around while I shined a light up their to see where the leak was coming from.

I wanted to give a update on this... I BELIEVE.... i have this fixed. So far so good.

I put it on a rack at work, and to my supprise my recently aquired C5 did NOT have the right angle drain tube. Water was just coming out of that little nub at the firewall.

After closer examination I could see deposits where the the water was coming out of the tube, and running down the side of the tube back into the inside.

Exactly what you get when u try to poor water ouf of a glass into another and dont angle it enough- It runs down the side.

Im assumeing the tube fell off somhow while driving. I found a piece of old 90 degree rubber radiator hose we had laying arround and put it on and no problems since.

Good job!

Theres suppose to be some sealing compound around that drain tube where it protrudes through the fire wall. I would make sure yours is still intact.

Bill, my 99 vette just went through a night's worth of rain and my wife noticed the carpet is wet in the passenger footwell by the bcm (bcm is ok btw), specifically near the junction of the tunnel and the bcm cover area. It's all drying now, and I know my hvac drain puts out plenty of water too as I've already checked that. This incident happened without any a/c as the car hadn't been run in a few days.
So I had checked my udder behind the battery a few months ago and seemed to be flowing fine when I put a hose on it from the top.
Do you think this water is coming from a leak around the passenger door or seal?

If you had defroster on you had your air conditioner on. Only two way that I know that you can water where you did.

1. Thru the blower motor leaking around the rubber seal.

2.) Rubber plug grommet behind the battery that comes thru the firewall popped loose.

Berry

Your best bet is to remove the seat and the carpet and wet the car in specific areas and look in the foot well area for the sign of where the water is flowing in. That’s the fastest way of finding it.

Mine was leaking around the upper door hinge, RTV fixed that.

I have a ZO6 and I also have a leak from the area where the roof meets the window frame. (COMMON ON FRC & ZO6) Its intermittent and I found a way to alleviate it.

Thanks guys. I'll remove the carpet/seat and check it out. Neither the a/c or defroster was on as the car had been sitting for several days and it was rained on. Then after driving the car a short distance we noticed the water.
