Is there any difference between a LS1 and LS6 Oil pump?
Glad someone actually asked rather than assume..
No, the castings are identical. If you want additional pressure, you can (slightly) shim the relief valve spring.
That said, removing, disassembling and cleaning your stock pump is an excellent idea. 99% of LSX oil pump "failures" are from stuck relief valves due to casting flash and other junk trapped in the valve bore.
Awesome....I really appreciate the quick reply back. So is this shimming your refering to the " how to port your oil pump"??
Sort of; most folks do bump the pressure up a bit, but you can have too much oil pressure as well. "Porting" simply refers to smoothing / cleaning up the casting on the output port. Shimming the spring w/ a small washer provides additional pressure. The "LS6" pump did come with a very slightly stiffer spring I believe, but nothing you couldn't emulate with a .05 plastic washer.

I have first-hand experience; I've disassembled and measured both.
Playing it safe would be disassembling, cleaning and inspecting the stock pump, assuming it has less than 100,000 miles on it. If you understand the design, you'll see it is "impossible" for the gerators to "stop pumping oil".
Apply that cash to something useful, like a set of head gaskets.
(Sorry, couldn't resist, you're luck hasn't been too good lately, good luck on the fix Mike).
