I just went to fill up my '00 Coupe and when I hit the fuel door release, nothing happened. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I looking at an expensive repair (I think I already know the answer to that one)? And is there a way to access the gas cap in the meantime?
Any guidance you can give will be greatly appreciated.
If the problem is electrical, the pull tab and cable will get the door open for you. It's inside, behind the driver's seat, over the wheel well (maybe tucked under the carpet) It shouldn't be too expensive either way. There's only a button, a solenoid and a tab that pulls back to open the door. It could be sticking, the button could have come unplugged in the console, or maybe power to the button is lost. None of the parts are expensive. Some have had luck after opening the door lubricating the tab that slides into the solenoid to free it up.
Try this. Have someone tap a couple of times on the fuel door button while you bump the door with your hand. What you are trying to do is take pressure off the releasing pin at the door.
Its either fuse 32 or 28 I forget which and I think it is a 10amp micro fuse. Mine blew when I removed my console rubbed through a wire grounding the system out.
Does your trunk release and foglight buttons work? If so, it may not be the fuse because all 3 of mine died when the fuse blew and worked fine after I fixed the short and replaced the fuse.
Mine used to stick occasionally. Some have reported rust in the plunger under the cover. Open it with the pull tab and then lightly lubricate it with white lithium grease. Actuate the plunger several times and see if that works for you...did for mine.
Have a similar problem.
The solenoid works fine, the door just will not pop open- tried lub already. If I hit the button and pry on the the aft portion of the fuel filler door it opens right up.
Anyone have this issue?
