The floppy sideview mirror
Hi all...
I just did the fix for the floppy mirror using the bolt, washer and nut to compress the spring and re-press on the fitting technique.
One word of advice. After many, many attempts to get the items to line up so they would press on, I did the following and it worked first time. YMMV.
I chamfered the end of the soft metal mirror post slightly to help the washers and lock washer fitting align. I also tacked two large washers together so they stayed aligned, the washers were sized to fit exactly on the mirror post. I then took some super glue and glued the fittng to the spring in alignment with the post (just a couple of spots) to hold that in alignment also.
Either worked like a charm, or I was very lucky today, as I was just about ready to chuck the @$$% mirror into the street.
