Hey Everyone,
Dumb question tonight......Can running 104 Octane boost in a 2002 Vette A4 screw anything up ..?? I added a bottle last time I filled up...now after 200 miles.....I get a miss when idleing in gear.....feels like I'm running on 7 cylinders or something......
Is it possible the octane boost had something to do with this ??
only seems to happen at idle while in gear....its worse when the a/c is on.....goes away when you give it gas...otherwise car drives fine... ...feels like someone pulled a spark plug wire or something
Hi---I had something similar happen with injector cleaner--what happens (i was told by the dealer) is because we have 2 fuel tanks and when we 1st put stuff into the filler , it all goes into the left side tank only--Only after driving it awhile it does mix the 2 tanks together as it trys to balance the levels in both--I guess all the cleaner settled on the bottom of my left tank and when i started it up , it got a straight shot of cleaner and fouled a plug--They told me to fill the tank 1st then add the stuff and drive it around slowly awhile to allow it to mix--
I would guess this probably happened with the 104 as well--
Other than that If you are sure it is a miss--then it is just a coincidence
With the AC on it creates more of a load on the engine and would make the miss worse--I agree that this stuff is best used by the import tuners and is all hype--LOL----When using NOS on my car i just add 3-4 gallons of Unocal 100 unleaded to a tankfull and it works much better --the price is about the same--
Most additives claim they are injector and O2 sensor safe...
I suspect it is a coincidence...
Especially because the amount you are adding is so low...
European gasoline conatins more aromatics (Benzene, Toluene, Xylene called BTX by refiners) than US gasoline.
When I want to boost my Octane 1 use a gallon or 2 of Xylene. It has an Octane rating of 117. It takes 2 gallons to raise a tank 2 Octane units ie 93 to 95.
That 104 stuff only raises octane number by tenths not full points. It is a waste of $$$ IMHO.
Very true, last week I needed race gas (105) and the shop was closed so I went to Auto Zone to buy a bottle of octane booster because it says it would raise the octane by 15 points , so I go to read the fine print and it says something like this : For every 1 point of octane booster is = to 0.01 of actual octane. So it would only raise the octane number by 0.15 add it up and if I remember 93.15 octane is race gas.
I used to gallon containers of Moroso octane booster for my 68 when it had 11:1 compression. That Moroso was good stuff - just one quart to 20 gallons was enough.
If you were running 93 octane before, the can made it 93.6 octane (thats the highest one that I've found).
Read the find print on the back where it says each octane point is actually one tenth of a point.
The only possible use for it that I can think of is perhaps if you get a bad tank of gas and a slight ping. The can may fix it, but dont expect a performance increase.
I forgot that I added Chevron/techron injector cleaner
last week, to a empty gas tank. The problem started soon after.
I changed out the Plugs & 2 were fouled bad.
Use Octanium or Torco.. Both are excellent REAL Octane boosters.. The stuff at the auto parts stores is a joke.. All of it/ I've tried them all. My timing is advanced 28 degrees.. I quickly find out what works and what does not.
